It's safe to say that coming into this season, most eye balls were on Colorado's McKinley Wright IV. And for good reason, too. Wright was by far the best player on the roster, had a huge breakout season last year and for all intents and purposes was going to be the reason the Buffs made a run at the tournament. We also had the Evan Battey story line. Battey was a victim of the NCAA's own incompetency and in-cognizance. If you don't recall, Battey was ruled ineligible due course work that occurred his freshman year in High School. Since that time, Battey has been a model student and there was no logical reasoning to punish a kid for something that happened so long ago, especially given the NCAA's lack of consistency when dealing with academic scandals. Battey also suffered a stroke that forced him to undergo intense physical therapy that included relearning how to talk.
So as the 2018-19 college basketball season was about to get underway, the Buffs had two great story lines. Wright, the golden child and Battey, the comeback kid. As the season progressed, and fans and players alike rode the ups and downs that was the CU Men's Basketball Season. The 8-2 start, the losses to Indiana State and Hawaii, the 2-6 start in Pac-12 play and finally the 8-2 finish to conference play that saw the Buffs tied for 4th place at the end of the regular season. During this tumultuous season, one player emerged as one of the best players not just on CU but in the Pac-12, Tyler Bey. I love Tyler Bey and he has quickly become my favorite player on this team. This team is still at the bottom of the standings if Bey doesn't break out. He is the reason why the Buffs have a legitimate shot at stealing the Pac-12 tournament (seriously, I actually believe that). He leads the team in points per game, rebounds and blocks. This years turnaround does not happen if Bey doesn't become one of the Buffs and Pac-12's elite players. And today Bey, along with Wright, was named to the all Pac-12 1st Team. My word of advice: hammer the Buffs this week in Las Vegas. If you don't, then you're making a mistake. Bey and Wright are going to send this team dancing, I can feel it.
