Denver Post - LOS ANGELES — The Pac-12 will move its football championship game to Las Vegas in 2020 and 2021.
Commissioner Larry Scott announced the decision Wednesday at the start of Pac-12 media day in Hollywood. The league title game has been played at Levi’s Stadium in suburban Santa Clara, California, since 2014. The event has struggled for solid attendance in the past half-decade, including a noticeably empty stadium for Washington’s win over Utah last year. Seemingly everything the Pac-12 touches from Larry Scott to the Pac-12 Network fails. Well for the first time since accepting Colorado to join the conference, The Pac-12 has knocked one out of the park. Las Vegas is infinitely a better location for the championship game than Santa Clara. Simply because no one can get to the stadium as the conference stubbornly demands that kick off starts in the middle of rush hour on a Friday. Literally, no one wants to go to that game and it's a black eye for the entire conference. Thankfully, folks will now have legitimate incentives to go see their school try to qualify for the playo... an NY6 game. Stop by the sports book to lay a few units on your alma mater, day drink at the pool, stumble over to the stadium and then hit the clubs to celebrate a conference title. That sounds like a pretty damn good weekend to me. And maybe, just maybe, we'll no longer see an empty stadium for the biggest Pac-12 football game of the year. Go Buffs.

I'm sad, I'm disappointed and I'm hurt. Does this mean that I will now disavow Alex Tanguay? No, no it does not. I guess when you score the game winning goal in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final you get that kind of leeway. But I'd be lying if I said that there wasn't a slight pain in my chest when this tweet stumbled upon my timeline. This is like seeing your best mate date a girl that is wildly entitled, arrogant and out of touch with reality but you're a good friend and you know the best course of action is just to let him go knowing that one day he will learn from his mistakes and ultimately become a better person for it (damn that was a really long sentence. Should I have broken that up? I don't know, I suck at grammar). I know you're reading this Alex, so I just want you to know that it's okay and that you can always come back. The boys will forgive you.
Okay, full disclosure, I do not have 1000 reasons why the Rockies shouldn't trade Charlie Blackmon. If forced, I'm sure I could come up with them, but I write this blog for free and I don't have the time to take on that task. Moving on.. Folks in Denver need to pump the brakes on blowing this whole thing up. Yes, the Rockies are having a wildly disappointing season up to this point but that in no way means we need to go into a full blown rebuild. We can all recognize that spending on the bullpen 2 years ago has been nothing short of a complete and utter failure. And we can accept that letting the franchise's greatest 2nd baseman ever walk for nothing in free agency was a mistake. Lastly, losing Otto has noticeably hurt this team but I'm pretty that him signing with New York was much more an Otto decision than a Rockies one. But on the flip side, just because Freeland and Marquez are having "sophomore slumps" doesn't mean we won't see them return to their 2018 form. In fact, I would bet money that we will see them return to the level we saw last year. Don't forget this team is coming off of back-to-back postseason appearances for the first time in team history and were only one win away from winning their first division title. The core to be a contender is still there (Arenado, Story, Blackmon, Dahl, Freeland, Marquez and Gray). So it is incredibly frustrating to see people so quickly be willing to jump ship. This team has three seasons to prove to Nolan that they can compete long term and fans want to pull the plug in July of year 1? It's fucking unsalted nuts. Can we at least wait until Arenado officially opts out before we all completely lose our minds? |
